Airtime

A brief visit to the Stellenbosch landfill site led to the following images being captured. The man I took photos of was named Airtime by his mates because he spoke so much. His real name was Piet. He really enjoyed seeing himself on a camera and said it was a privilege, yet to me it was a privilege to take the photos. On a daily basis he seeks refuge from a life on the streets by sorting out refuse into metals and non-metals. He sells the metals and generates an income for himself. Hard working and honest yet this is the life he lives to make ends meet and feed his family whilst he looks down upon the town of Stellenbosch from on top of the landfill mountain. Appreciate what you have and give people like this the respect they deserve.

The ring on this mans finger portrays a sense of self worth, even though he is found in a place where people abandon their worthless.

Appreciate people and appreciate life.
